The AQUALEX Multimedia Consortium

The AQUALEX Multimedia Consortium (AMC Ltd.) is a not-for-profit company based in Dublin, Ireland, run by a Board elected from the first AQUALEX LINGUA project partners.

How it started

The AQUALEX Multimedia Consortium Ltd (AMC) was established in 1996 as a not-for-profit company to market the results of the European Commission LINGUA Programme project, AQUALEX which led to the publication of the AQUALEX glossary in 1997 by John Wiley & Sons Ltd, New York.

From its beginnings, AMC Ltd has made a strong contribution to the European science base with its continuing development of interactive learning related to the aquatic sciences.

Our multilingual databases support high-quality multilingual products. Our multilingual aquatic science resource materials can be used as part of elearning or academic courses.

We have developed language learning tools to support language learning, specifically designed for (though not limited in scope to) the aquatic science sector.

History

In 1999, AMC expanded its multilingual CD-ROM provision by launching its aquaculture glossary AQUALEX online in 7 languages important for aquaculture (English, French, Spanish, Norwegian, Greek, Italian and German).

AMC Ltd went on to create a Virtual Learning Environment with a rich Resource Repository containing a variety of open access teaching/ learning tools including its basic language learning units in English, English, French, Spanish, Norwegian, Greek, Italian, Portuguese and Swedish

The AMC mission was, is and always will be to provide top-quality multilingual aquatic science resource materials in order to help all scientists (especially scientists in training) to communicate easily within Europe’s multilingual scientific community.
